The Changing Face of America: Effective Messages for New Audiences
Instructor: Brandon Hayes
This webinar invites you to take a deep dive into the way that we communicate about land conservation. If asked, people will generally express a high regard people for nature, but that doesn’t always translate into action. So how do we motivate our audiences, in particular those who are new to us or land conservation? Drawing upon ideas from other sectors, movements, and advocates, Brandon Hayes, Director of Communications at Openlands, invites participants to develop messages that will move people from abstract “good feelings” to concrete actions. The webinar will be highly interactive, so be prepared to experiment, brainstorm, and take risks as you transform how you talk about your work.
How will you benefit from this webinar?
- Identify preconceptions and assumptions about people’s relationships with nature
- Be creative about reaching new audiences to further your mission
- Apply strategies from social/political movements
- Practice drafting messages and receive feedback
